Sponsored by Zhejiang Provincial Science & Technology Museum, our Virtual Lab for Education system simulates real-world environments for science and technological educations in computers. Learners can use mouse or keyboard to walk freely in the lab, operate instruments, and finish experiments or training. Our Virtual Lab is an application virtual reality technology in education, and an excellent example of edutainment. Through friendly human computer interaction by having 'outside'
responses from vision, hearing and feeling, visual and life educational materials can be conveyed. Learners can thus touch those objects they cannot otherwise observe directly and gain their knowledge via entertainment in the virtual world.
Our Virtual Lab for Education can construct specific virtual scenes and guide learners for exploration. It has no distance and location limitation and can put learners from different locations in the same virtual space to collaboratively finish the experiment. In the virtual environment, those dangerous or body-harming experiments like explosion and burning experiments can be performed with ease. Virtual lab can break space limitation and learner can observe objects as large as universe and as small as atoms. Virtual lab can also break time limitation and those slow changing processes can be expressed to learner in a short time via virtual reality technology.
As a novel way for education, our Virtual Lab can be used not only in the classrooms, but also on the street for general education. It can be also exhibited in the science and technology museums.
This is to use 3D animation to simulate all planets in the solar system; visualizing its own features and moving status of each planet, and the special relationships among the planets, the sun and the earth, and the history of human exploration of the planets.
Rotating the 3D earth, learner can know the world geography, and exciting features in each geographical sites.
By simulating drosophila experiment, learners can understand the three basic laws in genetics. |
